Are your gauges waterproof?
Our gauges are IPX6 water resistant
Built for a range of applications including convertibles, boats, motorcycles and off-road vehicles - our gauges are highly water-resistant with an IPX6 rating from the front, which means they are dust-tight and water resistant. This level of protection is achieved through the use of high-quality materials, with a proprietary designed O-ring sealed window, as well as rigorous testing and quality control measures.
Why do your gauges use stepper motors?
Stepper motor gauges are the most precise and stable option available. The pointer is driven by a digitally controlled motor, so vibration never throws off your reading. Your needle stays steady and accurate, whether you’re on rough roads or sitting behind a rumbling engine.
Other gauge styles can’t match that consistency:
Air-core gauges are less accurate and can produce unstable readings when exposed to vibration.
Mechanical gauges can be fairly accurate at first, but their moving parts wear out faster. Over time, readings drift and the pointer tends to bounce.
With a stepper motor gauge, you get accurate readings from the day you install it, and they stay accurate for the life of the gauge.

The Temperature Sender that uses a single yellow wire running from the gauge does not read correctly!
The sender and gauge must be grounded to the same source to operate correctly.
The sender's ground path is its mounting threads. Ensure that what the sender is threaded into is grounded to the same source as the gauge.
Use Teflon paste on the sender threads to secure the seal and maintain a secure ground connection. Teflon tape will NOT assist the ground connection.
Why does my Water Temperature Gauge read high when compared to a Temperature Gun reading?
Making a comparison to a Temperature Gun reading should be used as a basic comparison only. A temperature gun only measures surface temperature, and does not measure internal temperature. Surface temperature will always be cooler than the coolant inside the engine. A common temperature difference would be between 5 and 25 degrees, between the water temperature gauge and a temperature gun. This depends on the efficiency of the component being shot with the temperature gun to dissipate heat. So, if your gauge reads 195 and you point & shoot and get a reading of 185, you can safely assume that you are seeing a reasonable, and realistic comparison. Only use a temperature gun to make basic temperature comparisons. Understand, that when everything is working correctly, the gauge will usually read higher since the gauge measures core temperature, and the temperature gun measures surface temperature.
Why is my CJ speedometer cluster beeping/sounding an alarm?

Press the button repeatedly until you see the Inclinometer display. 5. Press and hold the button to access the Inclinometer menu. 6.Select “1. Null” and press and hold the button. The Inclinometer display will show 0° for both pitch and roll. 7. If you desire you can set a warning point (5° to 80°) for the Pitch and/or the Roll. An alarm will sound when the vehicle tips past the warning point. a. Select the axis you want to set (Pitch or Roll). Press and hold to access the menu. Toggle through to set the degree. b. Do not press the button for 5 seconds to save the setting.
Why won’t my CAN-bus gauge power on?
Each Freedom CAN-bus gauge needs 12 volt DC power to operate. Connect the (Red, White, and Black*) power distribution cable to 12 volt DC power.
The OBDII connection does not provide power to the gauge.
*Red - +12 volts keyed ignition [main gauge power] White - +12 Volt Dash Lighting [pointer lighting] Black - ground
How difficult is it to connect and install Speedhut gauges?
If you have some technical knowledge, most of the gauges are straightforward to install. Installation setup may vary due to specific application or vehicle.
Speedhut does NOT offer custom mounting or dash fabrication services. We recommend working with a professional auto shop for gauge installation, custom mounting solutions, and custom dash fabrication.
Will Speedhut gauges fit in my stock dash in place of the OEM gauges?
While Speedhut gauges are intended to enhance and improve your vehicle's dash, they are NOT designed to be exact replacements for stock gauges.
Our gauges are universal and can be adapted to fit almost any automotive application. Because of this, most dashboards will need to be modified or rebuilt in order to mount your project's one-of-a-kind set.
Do I connect both white wires together and tie to lighting?
Yes, the gauge is lit using both white wires. The white wire that is next to the red and black wire lights up the pointer (gauge needle). The white wire that comes out of the black box (inverter) lights up the gauge dial (gauge background- numbers etc.). Combine both white wires together and connect to your 12volt dash lighting source to turn on all lights for the gauge at the same time. Connect both black wires together and tie to a good ground point.

4. Pointer will then travel to ‘E’ or ‘F’ depending on which end you are setting. Gauge will exit calibration menu and display current fuel level. Repeat procedure to set OTHER end point. Note: Until both empty and full points are calibrated the gauge will NOT display the fuel level accurately.
Note: On gauges with LED on front, the LED will blink 2 times to indicate the setting is saved. You can reset gauge calibration as many times as needed by repeating above steps.
The process of programming a fuel level gauge is detailed in the instructions.
Can I have the “Speedhut Inc” branding removed from the gauge dial face?
We are unable to remove the "Speedhut Inc." branding from the gauge face. Unlike many other dial manufacturers which will place their logo in the center of the gauge face, we keep our brand name small enough to be nonintrusive, and position it along the outer edge of the dial.
We want to help you stand out from the crowd with high-quality instrumentation that elevates your build to the next level -- now that's customization you can be proud of.
Are the colors displayed online accurate to the physical product?
Due to the inconsistencies of digital screen displays, the colors you see on your screen may not be an accurate representation of the actual product. We strive to make our display colors as accurate as possible, but screen images are intended as a guide only and should not be regarded as absolutely correct.
Are there downloadable templates I can use to better communicate my design ideas to Art Dept?

What's so special about the GPS Speedometer?
They are incredibly simple and straightforward to install! Our GPS Speedometers connect to the Global Positioning System through an antenna, and don't require a transmission sensor. (The antennas are included with the GPS Speedometers, too!) This makes them very easy to install in vehicles that lack electronic sensor output.
How accurate is your GPS? Does your GPS have a delay?
The GPS speedometer updates 4 to 5 times per second. The update rate is fast enough to not show any noticeable delay in keeping up with speed under hard acceleration or braking. Our GPS speedometer are used without issues in many performance cars!
What happens if you exceed the maximum speed of the speedometer?
If you exceed your speedometer's maximum speed, the pointer will remain at the maximum speed position, and will not move below the maximum speed position until your speed drops back into a readable range.
Luckily for all of the speed-fiends out there, this will NOT damage the speedometer.
If the speed exceeds the analog range and you are using a GPS speedometer with an LCD display then you can use the digital speed display feature to view your current speed.
Does the GPS Speedometer ever drop signal?
Our GPS speedometers rarely drop signal. They use a powerful 'active' antenna which perform exceptionally well in all driving environments, including tall buildings, canyons, and extreme weather such as rain and snow. In most cases, the only time you will experience a signal loss is while driving in tunnels or in parking garages.
Can you change the length of the GPS antenna?
No, but we offer three different antenna lengths for you to choose from: 5', 9.8' and 15'.
Where should I mount the GPS speedometer antenna?
The best location for the GPS antenna to be mounted is on the roof of the vehicle. The GPS antenna is waterproof and magnetic. If the roof is inaccessible, the antenna can be mounted on the top of the dashboard in a place with maximum exposure to the sky.
Metal will block the GPS signal, but the GPS antenna can receive a signal through thin materials like wood, glass, fiberglass, and plastic.
Can you add my odometer mileage to my GPS speedometer?
Yes, we can do that for you!
Please tell us your mileage in the 'Order Comments', and we will program your odometer when we build your gauge.
If you already own one of these speedometers you can send it back to us and we can program the miles into the odometer (shipping charges will apply).

Does the programmable speedometer come with a sender?
No, our programmable speedometers do not come with a sender. Follow the instructions that come with the speedometer to program it to your vehicle’s OEM transmission sender electric pulse output. If you have an older style cable drive output then we do sell senders that convert the cable drive to an electrical signal. Please contact customer support for more information.
How do I get the speedometer to work off my ECU?
See diagram:
Why does my speedometer react slower than actual speed?
Low pulse count per mile will result in a slow response from the programmable speedometer. Our programmable speedometers can read from 1K to 300K pulses per mile. Most transmissions will output at least 10K or more pulses per mile. However, if your transmission is outputting around 1-5K pulses per mile you might notice a slight delay in speedometer responsiveness.
What do I need to connect my Tachometer to?
You need to connect the tachometer to the vehicle's ignition system.
How do I connect a Tachometer to a GM LS1-LS7 engine’s ECU?
Please view the diagram below for more information on how to connect a Speedhut Tachometer to an LS ECU.

Is a Fuel PSI isolator reguired for the fuel pressure gauges?
Our fuel pressure gauge isolates the fuel at the sender and does not enter the vehicle. You will not need a fuel pressure isolator to run our gauge. The wire harness and sender are included with the gauge.
Are Freedom CAN-BUS gauges are compatible with my vehicle? How can I tell if my ECU supports the CAN protocol?
Freedom CAN-BUS gauges require an ECU that supports the U.S.A GMC CAN (J1979) protocol. Freedom CAN-BUS gauges operate by receiving data from the ECU (Engine Control Unit) through the OBDII wiring. Before purchasing a Freedom CAN-BUS gauge, please research your vehicle to identify whether it will support both the CAN-protocol AND your desired gauge type output.
The easiest way to see if your vehicle's ECU supports the CAN (J1979) protocol is to check your vehicle's OBDII connector.
CHECKING YOUR OBDII CONNECTOR
If the OBDII connector has wires connecting to pins 4, 5, 6, 14, and 16 then the vehicle supports the CAN-BUS (J1979) protocol. If the OBDII connector has wires connecting to pins 2 and 10 then the vehicle does NOT support the CAN protocol.
OBDII CAN (J1979) protocol Pinout: Pin 4 -- Chassis Ground Pin 5 -- Signal Ground Pin 6 -- CAN High (data) Pin 14 -- CAN Low (data) Pin 16 -- +12volt Battery power (not for use as gauge power)
Figure 1: OBDII Connector pinout diagram
NOTE: Freedom CAN-Bus gauges CANNOT be connected to a sender or anything that sends a raw signal.
Typically, all vehicles 2008 and newer that are manufactured by the USA, Canada, or the UK, are required to be compatible with the CAN (J1979) protocol. Some manufacturers used the CAN protocol before 2008. Not all gauge types will be supported on your vehicle's ECU. For example, not all ECUs support fuel level output.
Check with your vehicle’s dealer or the manufacturer of the ECU for information about what types of output are supported.
The following gauges will work with all ECUs with the CAN (J1979) protocol:
Freedom CAN-BUS Speedometers.
Freedom CAN-BUS Tachometers.
Freedom CAN-BUS Water Temperature Gauges.
Freedom CAN-BUS Intake Air Temperature Gauges.
Freedom CAN-BUS Voltage Gauges (Voltmeter).
The following gauges have limited support on ECUs with the CAN (J1979) protocol:
Freedom CAN-BUS Fuel Level Gauge is NOT supported on all CAN (J1979) protocol compatible ECUs.
The following gauges will only work with ECUs (with the CAN (J1979) protocol) made by General Motors (GM):
Freedom CAN-BUS Oil Pressure Gauges
Freedom CAN-BUS Oil Temperature Gauges
Freedom CAN-BUS Trans Temperature Gauges
Can I use a OBDII device/tool and Freedom CAN-Bus gauges at the same time?
Speedhut Freedom CAN-BUS gauges (individual or daisy chained) will not function when used in conjunction with any other OBDII device. Cycle the gauge power to restore proper gauge function.
How do I set up Freedom CAN-Bus gauges?
Freedom CAN-Bus gauges run off your vehicles OBDII system using the CAN (J1979) protocol. These gauges can only be used on 2008 and newer vehicles (All vehicles 2008 and newer are required to be compatible with the CAN (J1979) protocol). Freedom CAN-Bus gauges CANNOT be connected to a sender or anything that sends a raw signal.
There are two options for connecting the Freedom Gauges to the OBDII system: Plug the gauges directly into the vehicle's 16-pin OBDII Data Link Connector - OR - If needed you can easily 'hard wire' into CAN high and low data lines to free up the OBDII port.
What Freedom CAN-Bus gauges work with a Ford ECU?
Check with your dealer for more information about what types of output are supported.
The following gauges will NOT work with Ford ECUs:
Freedom CAN-BUS Oil Pressure Gauges
Freedom CAN-BUS Oil Temperature Gauges
Freedom CAN-BUS Trans Temperature Gauges
The following gauges will work with all ECUs with the CAN (J1979) protocol:
Freedom CAN-BUS Speedometers will work with all CAN (J1979) protocol compatible ECUs.
Freedom CAN-BUS Tachometers will work with all CAN (J1979) protocol compatible ECUs.
Freedom CAN-BUS Water Temperature Gauges will work with all CAN (J1979) protocol compatible ECUs.
Freedom CAN-BUS Intake Air Temperature Gauges will work with all CAN (J1979) protocol compatible ECUs.
Freedom CAN-BUS Voltage Gauges (Voltmeter) will work with all CAN (J1979) protocol compatible ECUs.
The following gauges have LIMITED support on ECUs with the CAN (J1979) protocol:
Freedom CAN-BUS Fuel Level Gauge is NOT supported on all CAN (J1979) protocol compatible ECUs.
Why won’t the CAN-bus gauge power on?
Each Freedom CAN-bus gauge needs 12 volt DC power to operate. Connect the (Red, White, and Black*) power distribution cable to 12 volt DC power.
The OBDII connection does not provide power to the gauge.
*Red - +12 volts keyed ignition [main gauge power] White - +12 Volt Dash Lighting [pointer lighting] Black - ground
