The McLaren M6GT Built By Tom Kirkham

"I'VE BEEN USING SPEEDHUT GAUGES FOR A LONG TIME. I USE THEM WHEN ACCURACY AND DEPENDABILITY ARE VITAL."
- TOM KIRKHAM, Cobra Automaker

Built specifically to compete in the lucrative Group 4 GT series against names like Porsche, Ferrari, and Alfa Romeo, the McLaren M6GT racing project was shelved after racing regulations changed and required a minimum of 50 identical cars, complete with engines, to compete.

Considered the wildest road car that never happened by Road & Track, the low, fast McLaren was a project Bruce McLaren believed in deeply. He even used it to commute to work and attend race meetings.

Recently, Tom Kirkham built a replica of the classic 1969 McLaren. It features an aluminum tub, a 400 small-block Chevy engine with a 600-horsepower Donovan block, a ZF 5-speed transmission, and a dashboard filled with classic Speedhut gauges.

After two years of re-engineering the build, Tom says it will go over 200 mph. "It's the fastest car I have ever driven."
